Meet the Tutors

Our Back Story

25 Years in the Making!

Mr P was Dr Rishi’s teacher and mentor in 1995-97 and one of the greatest influences on his medical and teaching career and they later became great friends. After years of false starts, the pandemic of 2020 gave them the opportunity to bring together their ideas and a diverse skillset to create a fantastic resource that makes the difficult concepts of A level biology accessible and understandable.

Dr Rishi

I’m Dr Rishi, a consultant surgeon in London with over 16 years working experience, but an educator for over 20 years, and this is where I really found my calling.

Having gained early experience, coaching and informally tutoring students at A-level and medical school undergraduates (Edinburgh university, Imperial College, and St Georges hospital), I was keen to develop this interest further.

Therefore, from 2010-2017, I worked as an anatomy demonstrator for medical school undergraduates, lecturer for Barts medical school (2014-15), examiner at medical finals level (Barts 2014), lecturer of Biology at an independent school (2010-16) and convenor of multiple courses at undergraduate and postgraduate orthopaedic levels. This not only gave me great experience but a real insight into some of the challenges that students of all levels and ages encounter.

In 2017, Let’s Talk Dr was set up following my observations during that time. This was to tackle these problems that students face to unlock the syllabus and deliver answers under pressure, a common pitfall, in order to excel at exams. It has continued to be very successful with students and Let’s Talk Biology is the latest branch of this series.

Mr P

I’m Mr P, a current senior examiner for A-level Biology and teacher with over 30 years of experience, who is currently head of biology and head of science at an independent school in Lincolnshire.

Born in Yorkshire but growing up in Edinburgh, my career took me from obtaining my undergraduate Biology degree at Aberdeen back to Yorkshire to complete my postgraduate teacher training at the University of Leeds. I remained in Yorkshire, gaining vast experience teaching biology in maintained and independent schools before moving to a school in Lincolnshire to become Head of biology and currently, Head of Science, teaching students at all levels.

I have also been an examiner of GCSE and A-level biology and am currently a senior examiner for A-level biology, which has given me a unique insight into mark schemes and what is required to gain the best possible grade and also some of the mistakes students commonly make and how to avoid them. I'm also the author of the "Exam Insights for A-Level Biology" textbook, which is now sold on Amazon.
